Nokia Booklet 3G

Nokia Booklet 3G: Nokia’s Netbook finally official!
This one’s been a long time coming. Nokia have long been rumoured to have been working on a Netbook and since the announcement of their partnership with Intel, the rumour mill has gone up a gear. So much so that Nokia decided they simply couldn’t wait to the Nokia World event taking place next week. So, without further ado, we present to you the Nokia Booklet 3G. The undisputed number one mobile manufacturer of the past 15 years, can Nokia make the transition into the ultra portable laptop market? Lets take a closer look at the Nokia Booklet 3G to find out.
The Nokia Netbook sets itself apart from the majority of its competitors thanks to a built in sim card slot. Stick your sim in and you’ll be surfing in no time. The Booklet 3G features HSDPA connectivity offering web browsing on tap without wires. The obligatory Wi-Fi connectivity is also included in a device that really hopes to put the net in Netbook. The Netbook features a 10 inch glass HD ready display, weighs around 1.25 kg and is just over two centremetres thin so chances are it’s going to be pretty compact. The Nokia Netbook sports an Intel Atom processor showing that Nokia and Intel’s partnership is already proving fruitful (processor clock speed tbc) and boasts an impressive battery life of up to 12 hours.
The mini laptop also comes with an HDMI port for HD video out, a front facing camera for video calling (interesting that Nokia refer to it as a front facing camera rather than a webcam), integrated Bluetooth, an SD card reader and integrated A-GPS which works with the pre-installed Ovi maps appliacation which can pinpoint your position in seconds and open up access for a truly personal maps experience. Nokia are keen to promote the Booklet 3G’s compatibility with Ovi services such as using Ovi Suite to synch with a Nokia Smartphone and gaining access to all your music via the Nokia Music Store.
Speaking in a press release, Kai Oistamo, Nokia’s Executive Vice President for Devices commented “We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us. Nokia has a long and rich heritage in mobility and with the outstanding battery life, premium design and all day, always on connectivity, we will create something quite compelling. In doing so we will make the personal computer more social, more helpful and more personal.”
More details are set to be confirmed at Nokia World (taking place in Stuttgart between 2nd and 4th of September) but the announcement from Nokia, while hardly surprising, has raised a few questions about where Nokia plan to place the device. Nokia have included several features that are common place in a smart phone but less so in a Netbook so the Booklet 3G could either be the best of both worlds or a confused entity which doesn’t really know what it’s supposed to be. What you can’t argue with is the impressive spec list so it will be interesting to see if Nokia can bring their pedigree in the mobile phone world to a Netbook. Keep an eye on the Blog next week as we bring you all the latest from Nokia World and more information on the Nokia Booklet 3G.
